ECHO Summer Day: playing together, building together

From Jenga blocks to self-built studio tables: during our annual ECHO Summer Day, both our heads and hands were fully engaged. On 8 July, we made time for each other, for the way we work, and for the joy of creating something together.
Playing with purpose
Play and creative thinking, reliability and progress. What do these core values actually mean in our day-to-day work? How do they show up in our designs, in the way we collaborate, and in conversations with clients? That’s what we explored in the morning – not just by talking about it, but above all by doing.
We put our imagination and powers of persuasion to the test. With Jenga XL, it wasn’t just about building a sturdy tower, but also about creating solid plans: when do you truly stand behind a design, and when do you dare to ask each other critical questions? In a role-play exercise, we then swapped our designer’s perspective for that of a resident, municipality, developer or housing association. Because progress doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone.

From ideas to studio tables
In the afternoon, we rolled up our sleeves at Buurman Rotterdam. This time, we weren’t working on a plan for a neighbourhood or urban district, but on something for our own studio: together, we built our new studio tables. Thinking, discussing, crafting and building. Collaboration in a different form, with a tangible result. Tables where new plans will soon take shape!
